Frequently Asked Questions

When is the best time to see the Northern Lights?

The Northern Lights season runs from September to March. The darkest months (November–January) offer the best chances, especially on clear nights. Our Aurora Cabins are specifically designed for viewing from the comfort of your bed.

How do I get to Honkarinne Tupa?

The nearest airport is Enontekiö Airport (ENF), 45 minutes by car. We offer airport transfers for €65 per person each way. You can also fly to Tromsø (Norway) or Kittilä and drive. In winter, the roads are well-maintained but winter tyres are essential.

Is there Wi-Fi?

Yes, complimentary high-speed Wi-Fi is available in all rooms and common areas. However, we gently encourage guests to unplug and enjoy the silence of the Arctic wilderness.

What activities are available?

We offer guided fell hikes, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, reindeer safaris, Northern Lights excursions, ice fishing, and summer midnight sun experiences. Our concierge can arrange all activities with local expert guides.

Do you have a restaurant?

Yes, our restaurant Revontulet serves New Nordic cuisine with a strong emphasis on local Lapland ingredients — reindeer, Arctic char, wild berries, and foraged herbs. Half-board and full-board packages are available.

What should I pack?

In winter (Oct–Apr): thermal base layers, warm outer layers, insulated boots, hat, gloves, and a headlamp. In summer (May–Sep): layers for varying weather, mosquito repellent (Jun–Aug), and good hiking boots. We provide snowsuits and boots for winter activities.

Can I book the sauna privately?

Absolutely. Our traditional wood-burning lakeside sauna can be booked privately for €45/hour. The experience includes birch whisks (vihta), towels, and a cold plunge in the lake — or a roll in the snow, if you dare.

Is the hotel open year-round?

Yes. Each season offers a unique experience: autumn for Northern Lights and ruska (fall colours), winter for snow activities and polar nights, spring for bright skiing days, and summer for the midnight sun and hiking.
